Union of Christian Men (UWAME)

Ushirika wa UWAME wa Kikristo

  1. The Union of Christian Men is an organisation for men aged 13 and above in the Diocese of Central Tanganyika. The current membership is approximately 5,000.

  2. The Union was established in July 2001 and DCT is the only diocese in the Anglican Church of Tanzania to have a formal organisation of this type. Its headquarters are in Mackay House, Dodoma and covers the districts  of Dodoma Urban, Bahi, & Chamwino.

  1. Vision

  2. To incorporate & unite all men in demonstrating the love of God in the church at large so that the body of Christ is built.

  1. Mission

  2. To utilise the values & diverse personal gifts of all men for the purpose of furthering the growth & joy of the church

  3. To have all men realize their responsibility to serve & work for the glory of God

  1. Goals

  2. To learn God’s word & let His word guide the Union in its endeavors

  3. To share ideas, visit each other, & console one another in times of difficulty

  4. To help youth understand the importance of being obedient to God’s word & commandments

  5. To become self-sustainable by initiating small income generating projects (gardening, keeping animals for milk &/or meat, etc.)

  6. To solicit membership for other national organizations, such as SAWATA & Help Age International

  7. To survey, research, & collect Wagogo stories and traditional items (such as furniture, musical instruments) which have valuable meaning for the use & enjoyment of the church

  8. To solicit means and ways to help the disabled and aged members of UWAME

  9. To have UWAME become a catalyst for social and economic transformation in the Diocese

  1. Plans

  2. To publicize UWAME throughout the DCT to enable Christians & parish level organizations to understand the meaning of the Union & to increase membership in UWAME

Presently UWAME has reached only approximately 70% of Parish level congregations

  1. To conduct seminars to publicize the work & fellowship of UWAME

  1. Programmes & Financial Considerations

  2. To accomplish the above objectives, the Union requires adequate funding to provide training for members about UWAME ministry, policy, & tenets of its Constitution. This training will be given at seminars:

  1. Challenges

  2. Inadequate means of communications

  3. Insufficient funds

  4. The condition of UWAME members revolve around poverty issues. Nominal means of supporting them are needed, beginning with small projects.

  5. Lack of transportation for the Department

  6. Inadequate funding to provide training for members about UWAME ministry, policy, and tenets.
